Gweru mayor, others granted bail

Provincial magistrate Pathekile has ruled that the state failed to provide compelling evidence why mayor Hamutendi Kombayi, his deputy Artwell Matyorauta, and Daniel Matau, the town clerk should not be given bail.
Doors had to be closed to disallow other people into the court

The trio is facing criminal abuse of duty charges after they allegedly misused $8733 by hosting MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Against the background, Msipa ordered the three to pay $200 bail each, and report to Gweru central police station once every Friday.

Kombayi should surrender his British passport, and Matau was also ordered to hand over all travelling documents that he has.

Msipa also ordered the accused persons to continue residing at their given addresses and not to interfere with investigations, and state witnesses.

Reginald Chidawanyika, assisted by Brian Dube, appeared for the accused persons.
