A Johanne Masowe we Chishanu prophet beat up congregants who had defied his word is now facing the full wrath of the law.
Tichaona Mambombombo, popularly known as Madzibaba Oshben, of Mtapa high density suburb had pleaded not guilty to assault when he appeared before Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
The state case was that on 5 June at Templecadie Johanne Masowe in Mtapa, Madzibaba Oshben stood up and ordered all of the worshipped to confess about what had happened during his absence concerning one Memory Nyangati.
Nyangati was said to be refusing to wear robes. As traditional church members wear white robes as uniform. Madzibaba Oshben, the court heard, stripped Nyangati in front of congregants before assaulting her wish a shepherd' staff (tsvimbo) several times all over the body.
Fellow congregants were also caught up in the crossfire when they attempted to retrain him from further assaulting Nyangati.
The court heard that Madzibaba Oshben turned on the congregants and started assaulting them with the same weapon resulting in the church members fleeing.
In his dance, Madzibaba Oshben said he wanted to resolve a dispute between Nyangati and his husband Matthew Mukarakate.
