Samson Mubape, 22, who resides in village Bani under Chief Mapiravana, appeared before regional magistrate, Morgan Nemadire last week facing rape charges after he pounced on the minor on her way from school.
Nemadire initially sentenced Mubape to 17 years but suspended three for five on condition of good behaviour.
Mubape grabbed and dragged his victim into a nearby bush where he raped the girl before threatening to kill her if she revealed her ordeal.
After the rape, he told the girl that from henceforth they were lovers and that she should always walk alone when coming from school.
Prosecutor Prisca Kanhukamwe told the court that on an unknown date but sometime in February 2014 at around 4:30 pm, the girl was on her way from school when Mubape met her along a footpath.
“The accused ordered the girl to come closer to him before grabbing her hand and dragged her to a nearby bush where he tripped the juvenile to the ground before undressing her and raping her,” she said.
The State further stated that on three other occasions in the same month of February 2014, Mubape waited for the girl on the same spot and dragged her to the same bush where he would rape her again.
However, on the 17th May 2014, the girl’s mother discovered injuries on her daughter’s genitals and enquired what had happened to her.
It was then that the girl narrated her ordeal. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Mubape.- NEW ZIMBABWE
